The Power of Generosity
Wednesday, August 12, 2009 by Fr. Mark in RwandaI’m always struck by the power of generosity to create joy and hope. Two months ago I told a friend about the ministry of Archbishop Emmanuel Kolini to Rwandan orphans and child-headed households. My friend said enthusiastically, “I’ll help fund that!” Much to my delight, I had a fund-raiser on my hands. You see, there’s more to the story.
In May, our Vestry approved the donation of $10,000 to ++Kolini’s ministry, $9,000 of which has been sent. We thought we were “done.” But when the floodgates open you can stand in the way or go with the tide. We’re riding the wave of life-giving generosity! Please see the section of this eNews about our fund raiser on August 29.
A special thanks is also given to Cornerstone Community Church, who will play host for the evening. Cornerstone is a special place for Shawnie and I, because we were on the founding team 17 years ago and have many friends there. The church occupies a former theater and – smartly-kept the big screen! Great site for a fund-raiser where a movie will be shown… speaking of which, As We Forgive is an award- winning documentary.
You’ll see for yourself how hard and how needed is the movement of reconciliation in the country. You’ll see what the church struggles with daily and why supporting orphans, child-headed homes and their mentor parents is so important. Until next time, God bless you!
